Everyone wants a best friend, right? Someone they can trust, can count on, a confidante to discuss their problems and life with. It starts when we were kids, how important friendship is. How happy we were to have a new friend to talk to and play with, that soon became our best friend. Of course when you are kids, you can go through many best friends as some move, you get new best friends as interests change, and some may get childish (even as adults) and never speak to you again. Oh how friendship can be!
I’ve had my share of friends, that come and go, with all the ups & downs that go with them. Presently I’m not speaking to a childhood friend who got mad at me and unfriended me on facebook (of all places!). It’s sad but what can you do, friends can be unfriendly at times. I gather one day we will we speak again, as can’t wash away the history, but I’m not losing sleep over it.
My best friend now is not human, is my cat. She is always around when I need her, listens to my troubles and gives me comfort when I really need it. Never complains, only if her food isn’t on time or doesn’t get her daily petting session (2 or more times a day as is repetitious).
For many who are alone, animals are great comfort whether it’s a cat or dog, or another animal, you choose for a pet. They are loyal, loving and always around to keep you company. How many humans can you say are like that? People may say dogs are more loving but I think cats are too in their own way. They take time to build trust and are flexible around your schedule. Sure they don’t slobber all over you (unless they have a hairball to spit out), like a dog, but they show their love in many other ways.

My cat though is kind of dog-like, she greets me at the door when I come from outside and follows me around (some of the time if not distracted with birds at the window or something else). She also knows many words on command, like when I say bedtime and she runs away.
I like the independence of cats as they are not so needy like dogs, can keep themself occupied (with naps or bird watching) while you are busy doing something else. At the sametime, they want to be near you too, whether just sitting on the next chair beside you or in the same room. And if they need attention, you better get moving now!
I didn’t plan to have a cat but it happened that we both entered each other’s lives (many years ago) under circumstances where she had been lost and found very seriously injured. I nursed her back to health and we’ve been together ever since. I’m so glad she is in my life and means the world to me!
My cat has her own instagram account, is popular there as has a lot of friends on instagram. I am though her best friend who she trusts the most. I am lucky and grateful she thinks so highly of me.
And I rather hang around with cats on instagram than human friends on facebook!
Oh I have to run, my best friend is giving me the “I want attention” eyes and needs to be petted by her human servant, right now!
